Liposuction Surgery (Lipoplasty)
Tijuana, Baja California, MX
Liposuction, technically referred to as lipoplasty, reduces or eliminates pockets of fat that are unresponsive to diet or exercise. This body contouring surgery can improve the proportions of the body and can be combined with other plastic surgery procedures (such as tummy tuck or body lift) for a more comprehensive transformation. Liposuction is often performed on the following body parts:
- Waist
- Hips
- Thighs
- Buttocks
- Chin or neckline
- Back
- Upper arms
- Calves and ankles
Liposuction is not intended as a weight loss procedure and should not be used as a substitute for bariatric surgery. Instead, by targeting stubborn areas of fat, it helps the body look more proportional and sculpted. Liposuction candidates should be in good shape and near their ideal weight, with only a few areas of diet and exercise-resistant fat when they visit our Tijuana plastic surgery center.
Liposuction Surgery in Tijuana, Mexico
Liposuction is typically performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Mexico liposuction surgeon Dr. Fuentes makes a tiny incision in the treatment area and inserts a narrow tube called a cannula. The cannula moves back and forth to break up the fatty tissue and vacuum it from the body. Dr. Fuentes will determine how much fat needs to be removed by massaging the skin and squeezing the tissue. After he is happy with the amount of fat that has been removed, he closes the incisions with sutures and bandages the treatment area. A compression dressing may be applied to prevent bleeding, reduce swelling and support the new contours of the body.
Liposuction Techniques in Mexico
There are several variations of liposuction, including tumescent and ultrasound liposuction. In a tumescent liposuction procedure, Dr. Fuentes injects the treatment area with a tumescent fluid, which is a solution of saline and epinephrine. The solution causes the fat to firm up for easier removal. It also prevents excessive bleeding. The rest of the procedure is performed as normal. We offer this liposuction technique in Tijuana, Mexico.
Recovering from Liposuction Surgery
The latest advances in liposuction have reduced the amount of surgical recovery time. How long a patient must rest and recover depends on what type of procedure they had performed, and how extensive it was.
Generally, liposuction Tijuana patients should rest quietly at home and avoid unnecessary movement for several days following their surgery. This speeds up the overall recovery time. Patients may need to wear a support garment for several weeks following their procedure, depending on the area of the body that was treated. There may be some slight discomfort after liposuction, but this can be alleviated with oral pain medication, prescribed by Dr. Fuentes.
